A political controversy has erupted between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress over the Pulitzer Prize awarded to three photojournalists.

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police officer, Imtiyaz Hussain Mir, posted as SSP Security Kashmir, has taken on the Pulitzer lobby by tweeting a heart-rending picture of daughter of a police officer martyred in 2017 in Kashmir. In the picture posted by the senior police officer, the girl can be seen crying as her father was killed by the terrorists in Kashmir in 2017.

“This picture should haunt the conscience of humanity for times to come. An inconsolable daughter of a police officer martyred in 2017 in Kashmir.  Any awards for this photograph?” Imtiyaz Hussain tweeted.

The senior cop’s tweet comes after three photojournalists from J-K – Channi Anand, Mukhtar Khan and Dar Yasin of the Associated Press – were awarded the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for their “striking images of life” in Kashmir. The photographs were clicked during the lockdown in the region following the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.

While awarding the three photojournalists, the Pulitzer Board on its website said, “For striking images of life in the contested territory of Kashmir as India revoked its independence, executed through a communications blackout”.
